TxDOT trucks now spray Granbury's major roads with brine ahead of freezing weather.
Brine is a liquid solution of water and salt. TxDOT applies it to roads before freezing weather to prevent ice from bonding to pavement. It's a cost-effective way to make winter travel safer.
How Brine Works:
*Anti-icing: Applied before a freeze to stop ice from forming.
*De-icing: Can also be used after ice forms to help break it up.
*Efficient & Cost-Effective: Works at temperatures as low as -6°F and is cheaper than other de-icing chemicals.
*Easy Application & Storage: Sprayed at 30-60 gallons per lane mile using specialized TxDOT equipment.
By using brine proactively, TxDOT enhances road safety while reducing costs and environmental impact.
