The Granbury Police Department has again been recognized as an "Accredited Law Enforcement Agency" by the Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA) Law Enforcement Accreditation Program. This marks the third time the department has received this prestigious accreditation, having first earned it in May 2016 and successfully re-accredited in June 2020.
Launched in 2006, the TPCA Accreditation Program reviews law enforcement agencies' adherence to over 168 Best Business Practices specifically tailored for Texas law enforcement. These practices, developed by experienced law enforcement professionals, guide agencies in providing effective services while safeguarding individual rights. They cover key operational areas such as use of force, vehicle pursuits, citizen rights protection, property and evidence management, and both patrol and investigative functions.
The Granbury Police Department began its most recent accreditation process in February 2024, embarking on an in-depth self-assessment of its policies, procedures, facilities, and operations. Following this internal review, the department requested an independent audit, which culminated in an on-site inspection conducted on August 14, 2024, by trained Police Chiefs from across Texas. The results of this audit were then submitted to the TPCA Accreditation Committee for final review, leading to the official accreditation on August 29, 2024.
Out of over 2,800 law enforcement agencies in Texas, Granbury Police Department was the 129th to achieve accredited status in 2016, and few departments have reached re-accreditation since. This ongoing recognition affirms the department’s commitment to maintaining state-of-the-art law enforcement practices and serves as a testament to the confidence the city’s leadership and residents can have in their police force.
The formal presentation of the accreditation will take place during the October 15 City Council meeting, and the department will be further recognized at the Texas Police Chiefs Association Annual Conference in March 2025.
